As biologists, we study the living world. The amazing diversity of life and the processes that generate and maintain it spur our curiosity-driven research. Unfortunately, largely due to human influences, modern rates of biodiversity loss are alarming and require immediate solutions. In collaboration with the Wildlife Forensics Center of the Yunnan Endangered Species Commission and the South China DNA Barcoding Institute of the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, I am developing a genetic approach to figure out what kinds of endangered animals are being used in steeped alcohol, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Youth for Wildlife Conservation featured me and my research on wildlife forensics of steeped alcohol on their #MeetTheNetwork series.
